Ingredients

IngredientQuantity
All-purpose flour2 cups
Granulated sugar1 ½ cups
Unsweetened cocoa powder½ cup
Baking powder1 ½ teaspoons
Baking soda1 teaspoon
Salt½ teaspoon
Whole milk1 cup
Vegetable oil½ cup
Large eggs2
Vanilla extract2 teaspoons
Boiling water1 cup
Chopped pecans1 cup
Caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)1 cup
Chocolate chips1 cup

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until fully blended.
  3. Add milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  4. Stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth; it will be thin, but that’s perfect.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Drizzle with half of the caramel sauce, then sprinkle half of the chopped pecans and half of the chocolate chips.
  8. Add the second cake layer on top and repeat with the remaining caramel, pecans, and chocolate chips.
  9. Slice and serve, enjoying the rich, gooey layers with every bite.

Notes

  • For extra depth of flavor, add 1 teaspoon of espresso powder to the batter.
  • Substitute walnuts for pecans if you prefer a different nut.
  • For added creaminess, layer in whipped cream between the cake layers.
