Fried Apple Pies

Ingredients

Ingredient Quantity
Cold water ½ cup
All-purpose flour 2 cups
Salt 1 teaspoon
Chilled shortening ½ cup
Medium apples, peeled and diced 2
Ground cinnamon ⅛ teaspoon
White sugar ¼ cup
Oil (for frying) As needed

Instructions
Prepare the pastry by sifting together the flour and salt, then cutting in the chilled shortening until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs. Add the cold water a tablespoon at a time, gently mixing with a fork until the dough forms. Shape it into a ball, wrap it, and refrigerate for 30 minutes. While it chills, make the filling by placing the diced apples in a saucepan with cinnamon and sugar. Cook covered over low heat until the apples soften, then mash into a thick applesauce and let it cool. To assemble, lightly flour your surface and roll out the chilled dough. Cut the dough into 4-inch rounds and moisten the edges with cold water. Spoon a tablespoon of filling into the center, fold the dough in half, and seal the edges with a fork. Heat oil to 190°C (375°F) and fry each pie for 2–3 minutes per side until beautifully golden. Drain on paper towels and serve warm with powdered sugar or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

These fried apple pies bring classic comfort with every bite—crispy outside, tender inside, and loaded with cozy apple flavor.
