Smothered Hamburger Steak Magic

Ingredients

Ingredient Quantity
Ground beef 1 pound
Breadcrumbs ½ cup
Milk ¼ cup
Large egg 1
Garlic powder 1 teaspoon
Onion powder 1 teaspoon
Salt 1 teaspoon
Black pepper ½ teaspoon
Worcestershire sauce 1 tablespoon
Vegetable oil 2 tablespoons
Onion, sliced 1 medium
Mushrooms, sliced 1 cup
Beef broth 2 cups
Cornstarch 2 tablespoons
Water 2 tablespoons
Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish) 1 tablespoon

Instructions
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently until just combined and shape into 4 equal patties.
Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for 4-5 minutes per side until browned and cooked through. Remove patties and set aside.
In the same skillet, sauté the sliced onions and mushrooms for 5-7 minutes until onions are translucent and mushrooms are tender.
Pour in the beef broth and bring to a simmer. In a small bowl, whisk cornstarch with water to form a slurry and stir it into the simmering broth. Cook until the sauce thickens, about 2-3 minutes.
Return the hamburger patties to the skillet, spooning the sauce over them. Simmer for 5 additional minutes to heat through.
Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley.

Notes
Add cayenne pepper or hot sauce to the beef mixture for a spicy kick.
Serve over mashed potatoes or rice to soak up every bit of the rich gravy.
