This recipe is a MUST around the holidays, but I make it all year long

If you’re looking for a treat that hits all the right notes—salty, sweet, and perfectly crunchy—this recipe is a must-try. Known as “Cracker Toffee” or the infamous “Christmas Crack,” these bites combine buttery crackers, rich homemade caramel, and smooth chocolate for an irresistible snack that everyone will love.

Salted Caramel Cracker Bites (Cracker Toffee)

Ingredients:

For the Base:

Ingredient Quantity
Saltine Crackers 1 sleeve (about 35-40 crackers)

For the Salted Caramel Sauce:

Ingredient Quantity
Granulated Sugar 1 cup
Unsalted Butter (cubed) 1/2 cup
Heavy Cream 1/4 cup
Sea Salt 1/2 teaspoon (adjust to taste)
Vanilla Extract 1/2 teaspoon

For Topping:

Ingredient Quantity
Semisweet Chocolate Chips 1 cup
Sea Salt 1/2 teaspoon

How To Make Salted Caramel Cracker Bites (Cracker Toffee):

Step 1: Preheat Oven and Prep
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2: Make Salted Caramel Sauce
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt 1 cup granulated sugar while stirring constantly until it turns a golden amber liquid. Carefully add 1/2 cup cubed butter, stirring until fully incorporated. Slowly pour in 1/4 cup heavy cream, stirring continuously (it will bubble vigorously). Bring to a boil and let it boil for 1 minute. Remove from heat and stir in 1/2 teaspoon sea salt and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract.

Step 3: Arrange Crackers
Place the saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.

Step 4: Pour Caramel Sauce
Evenly pour the hot caramel sauce over the crackers. Tilt the pan or use a spatula to spread it for full coverage.

Step 5: Bake
Bake for 5-7 minutes, or until the caramel is bubbling energetically and the edges of the crackers are lightly golden.

Step 6: Melt Chocolate
Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips over the hot caramel. Allow the residual heat to melt the chocolate for a few minutes.

Step 7: Spread Chocolate and Finish
Use an offset spatula to spread the melted chocolate evenly over the crackers. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 teaspoon sea salt on top for that perfect balance of flavors.

Step 8: Cool
Let the toffee cool completely at room temperature or chill it in the refrigerator until the chocolate and caramel are firm. Break into pieces and enjoy.

This holiday favorite is so delicious that you’ll find yourself making it all year long. Perfect for gifting, parties, or an indulgent treat at home.
