Instructions

Make the Meat Sauce:
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until softened. Stir in the garlic and ground beef, breaking the meat apart as it cooks. Continue until it’s fully browned. Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, oregano, basil, chili flakes if using, and season with salt and pepper. Let the sauce simmer gently for 20–25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens and the flavors deepen.

Prepare the Cheese Filling:
In a medium bowl, mix together ricotta cheese, egg, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, and a pinch of salt and pepper until smooth and creamy.

Preheat the Oven and Prepare the Pan:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a deep round baking dish or a springform pan to make slicing easier later.

Assemble the Lasagna Pie:
Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of the prepared pan. Layer lasagna noodles, ricotta mixture, more meat sauce, and a generous sprinkle of mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layers until the pan is filled, finishing with mozzarella and a dusting of Parmesan on top.

Bake:
Loosely cover the pan with foil, tenting it slightly so the cheese doesn’t stick. Bake for 35 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15–20 minutes, or until the top is golden, bubbly, and irresistible.

Rest and Serve:
Allow the lasagna pie to rest for about 15 minutes before slicing. This helps the layers set beautifully for clean slices.

This cheesy lasagna pie is rich, flavorful, and perfect for family dinners, potlucks, or any time you want to impress without overcomplicating things. It’s classic comfort food taken to the next level.
