When I lived in Portugal I would buy one of these from the grocery store every week

If you’ve never tried chocolate “salami,” you’re in for a treat. Despite its name, there’s no meat involved—just a decadent mix of crushed cookies, toasted walnuts, and smooth chocolate, all rolled into a log and sliced like a traditional salami. It’s rich, fun to make, and always a hit at parties, holidays, or whenever you want to impress guests with something unique.

Chocolate Salami

Ingredients:

Ingredient Quantity
Maria’s cookies, crushed 2 packages (4.9 oz)
Walnuts, finely chopped and toasted 1 cup
Chocolate chips 2 cups
Heavy cream 1 cup
Butter, cubed 1/3 cup
Powdered sugar, for dusting 1/3 cup

Instructions:
Crush the Maria’s cookies into fine crumbs. You can use a food processor for a smooth texture or place them in a sealed plastic bag and crush them with a rolling pin. In a dry skillet, toast the chopped walnuts over medium heat for 3–5 minutes, stirring often to prevent burning. Once fragrant, remove them from the heat.

In a saucepan over low heat, combine the chocolate chips, heavy cream, and cubed butter. Stir constantly until the chocolate melts and the mixture becomes smooth and glossy. Remove from heat and stir in the crushed cookies and toasted walnuts, mixing thoroughly until everything is evenly coated.

Lay a large piece of plastic wrap on a clean surface and transfer the chocolate mixture onto it. Shape it into a log or “salami” shape, using the plastic wrap to help roll it tightly. Twist the ends of the wrap to seal it well. Place the log in the refrigerator for 2–3 hours, or until firm.

Once chilled, unwrap the chocolate salami and roll it in powdered sugar to give it that classic salami look. Slice it into rounds and serve. It’s simple, elegant, and irresistibly good—a taste of Portugal right in your kitchen.
